Kids 'R' Kids on Steeple Chase
OUR PHILOSOPHY & THE CREATIVE CURRICULUM
Kids ‘R’ Kids East Roswell Preschool off Holcomb Bridge uses the
Creative Curriculum, a
research-based, developmentally appropriate
curriculum
for pre-schoolers. Using this framework, our teachers are
able to teach in the ways that best match the way in which we know
young children develop and learn.

Children learn best by doing, and the Creative Curriculum uses a
developmental “hands-on” approach built around weekly or monthly
themes. During each week we address all areas of development:
social,
emotional, physical (large and small motor), cognitive and language
development
. Lesson plans are usually prepared weekly and posted in
each classroom. There is a balance between
teacher-directed and
child-initiated activities
. Our classrooms are set up in a learning
center configuration, which allows each child to choose his/her activities
in the different classroom areas. The activities in each learning center
are planned by the teachers to facilitate discovery learning. Our daily
schedule includes
large group, small group, and individual activities
as well as learning center times
. The children are guided and
encouraged to learn new self-help skills, think for themselves, make
choices, experiment, explore, make mistakes, and
have a lot of fun in
the process.
Infant Room (6 weeks to approximately 12 months)
Our extraordinary infant room staff cares for a maximum of 12 babies
at a time, up to approximately 12 months of age. Our teacher to child
ratio is 1:4. Each baby has their own crib and each is cared for on an
individual schedule with a plan based on their own developmental needs.
Since we now know how very important these early months are for
building a baby’s brain, our staff receive ongoing training in all areas of
brain-development. The infant room is very well equipped with age
appropriate furniture, toys and books. Our babies feel safe and secure
and loved; they are held and cuddled, talked to and read to, and given
many opportunities to explore, play and learn.

Toddlers (12 months to 24 months)
Young children learn best by doing and playing, by exploring the world
around them using all their senses. The toddler classrooms and
playgrounds are carefully designed to promote safe exploration and
learning. The interest areas in the classrooms provide a wealth of
different toddler activities, yet remain uncluttered, with room to move
and practice developing motor skills. Our outside climbing structures
are very low to the ground and easy to explore safely even when you can’
t walk very well. During the toddler years language skills are blossoming.
We sing and talk and read a lot in these classrooms; we listen and
respond to the children as they struggle with new language and ideas.
We paint and draw and glue and splash and have fun and make a mess.

Pre-School (age 2 to 4)
The most important goal of our curriculum is to help children become
enthusiastic learners. The pre-school teachers plan around weekly or
monthly themes designed to meet the needs of all types of learners and
encourage children to be active and creative explorers who are not
afraid to try out their own ideas and experiment. Our pre-schoolers are
guided to learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for
them. Distinct interest areas have been created in each classroom –
blocks, home living, art, library, science, computers, table toys – in
order to make choices clearer to the children. The daily schedule also
supports appropriate learning by providing a blend of teacher directed
and child initiated activities, large and small group work and individual
time.

Pre-Kindergarten (must be age 4 by September 1st)
Kids ‘R’ Kids offers two Pre-Kindergarten classes funded by the State
of Georgia. Our Pre-K teachers hold 4-year degrees and are fully
certified to teach Pre-K through the elementary grades. The goal of our
program is kindergarten readiness. We have chosen The Creative
Curriculum for Early Childhood which is a developmental, “hands-on”
curriculum approved by Georgia for use in the Pre-K programs. This
provides an appropriate developmental continuum throughout the school.
Weekly themes are also used in Pre-K and while many of these themes
will seem familiar, projects and activities will be different and
appropriately challenging for Pre-K students. During each week the
teachers continue to address all areas of development: social/emotional,
cognitive, language, large and small motor. Throughout the school year
our Pre-K students are encouraged to learn new self-help and social
skills, think for themselves, make choices, experiment, explore and have
a lot of fun. We want them to finish their Pre-K year with us, not only
ready for elementary school, but also as enthusiastic lifetime learners.

After-school Program (Club House – ages 5 to 12)
Kids ‘R’ Kids offers a program for school-age children after their
elementary school day is over. Our buses pick the children up from
school and bring them back to Kids ‘R’ Kids for the remainder of the
afternoon. The Club House program is organized to be a home away from
home and to allow the children as much freedom of choice as possible
within a structured and safe environment. We provide a variety of
interesting and fun activities for the afternoon, as well as supervised
homework time. The large playground is a great place for games,
sports and socializing.

Kids ‘R’ Kids also offers school-age students a “Holiday Program” for
teacher workdays and full-day care during the winter and spring breaks.

Summer Camp Program (ages 5 to 12)
Kids 'R' Kids offers three unique and exciting Summer Camp Programs
for children ages 5 to 12.
These camps are:
1) a Pre-k Camp program for rising Kindergartners age 5;
2) a Junior Camp for Children ages 5 to 7
3) a Senior Camp for children ages 7 to 12

These programs offer a variety of arts and crafts, games, sports, and
